Stress

It doesn't matter if you you have just crawled to work in all that traffic, or found yourself staring at the unexpected bill, stress is all around you.

Tiredness, mood swings, skin problems, poor memory, lack of concentration, lack of or poor quality sleep, are some of the most common signs of stress, but it doesn't mean you are not coping with it, or that you are a weak person. We are all individuals who deal with situations differently.

Stress Buster 1

Using the middle row of knuckles, tap the centre of your chest keeping to a rhythm. One hardish tap followed by two more gentle taps, ONE, two, three, ONE, two, three etc. Try doing this for 2 minutes.

It is important that we recognise the symptoms that affect us as individuals, and learn how to deal with them positively. Getting drunk, while it sounds like fun, is not the answer, neither is eating junk food. Our bodies can be run-down through lack of vitamins and minerals, so we should try to maintain a healthy diet.
Jacket potatoes are good for you, chocolate digestives are not, fruit is great, and can help the immune system fight off colds or flu. Drink plenty of water, as this helps rehydrate your body, and try to keep caffeine to a minimum.

Exercise is also a vital part of our well being, seek your Doctors advice if you're unsure about which type of exercise you should indulge in.

Stress Buster 2

Place your elbows on the desk, put your face in your hands, cupping the palms over your eyes. Relax your shoulders and sink into darkness for a few moments. Even 10 seconds will help. It is very important to take positive action when faced with stress.

At work learn to say no. If you are asked to take on extra work, decline, you know how much work you can cope with, and do it well. Taking on more work means the standard can drop. We all want to do what we do, to the best of our abilities! Don't take your work home with you.

Enjoy relaxing every day, even if it's only for a little while, and don't feel guilty about it. We all need to turn off from time to time. It is a vital part of life, chill out!

Stress Buster 3

Put a few drops of orange or lavender essential oil on a tissue. As you start to feel stress coming on, inhale gently.

There are many places out there you can visit, just to find out about stress, there are courses you can take, books you can read, and of course web sites.
